Cornish Lithium on BBC Countryfile

Cornish Lithium is proud to be featured on this evening’s episode of BBC1’s Countryfile at 7pm.

Tom Heap and the Countryfile crew visited us for filming on the 13th of August. Our CEO, Jeremy Wrathall and Senior Geologist, Lucy Crane were interviewed about our pioneering exploration techniques and use of digital technology to re-evaluate Cornwall’s mineral potential as the UK seeks a domestic supply of lithium for use in electric vehicle and power storage batteries. We also discussed the recent funding that Cornish Lithium has received from the UK Government’s Getting Building Fund to build a pilot plant for the extraction of lithium  from geothermal waters at United Downs in Cornwall, in collaboration with Geothermal Engineering Ltd. The segment is entitled Battery-driven Britain.

If the future is electric and the Government wants to ban vehicles with internal combustion engines, what needs to happen to ensure that the UK is ready for the transition to electric cars?

This film demonstrates how battery life and cost are key, and asks big questions about the supply chain of raw materials and batteries that will need to be established before car manufacturers are in a position to step up production.

Cornish Lithium’s leading role in the UK’s green industrial revolution and the use of new, environmentally-responsible processing technologies could result in the production of net zero carbon lithium from geothermal waters in Cornwall. This has the potential to supply a significant amount of the UK’s requirement for this critical battery metal. Tune in to find out more.
