Cornish Lithium welcomed Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s announcement on 18th November of the ten point plan for a green industrial revolution, including the creation of 250,000 jobs. Cornish Lithium’s CEO Jeremy Wrathall released the following statement:
“Cornish Lithium is delighted to see the increasing urgency with which the UK Government is responding to the growing threat of climate change. Its recent announcement that brings forward the ban on petrol and diesel vehicles from 2035 to 2030 highlights Britain as a leader in combatting climate change and advancing the adoption of electric vehicles. Accelerated demand for electric vehicles will bring many opportunities for the UK economy – in particular, to develop domestic sources of lithium and other critical battery metals – thus ensuring that Britain can fulfil its ambitions for “Clean Growth” and the “Future of Mobility” as set out in the Industrial Strategy “Grand Challenges.” A new industry based on the environmentally-responsible extraction of lithium will generate significant economic value for Britain and particularly for Cornwall, which is one of the most economically-deprived regions of the UK. Cornish Lithium is focussed on developing a whole new battery raw materials industry. This is expected to create several hundred new jobs in Cornwall and enhance the security of the supply chain as Britain transitions to the electric vehicle era.”
