Financial Controller

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Cornish Lithium is a pioneering mineral exploration group of companies, focussed on the sustainable extraction of lithium and other battery metals in the historically significant mining district of Cornwall to help deliver a sustainable, long-term mineral supply chain for the UK. The Group is focused on extracting lithium from hard rock and geothermal resources. A decarbonising by-product of the
geothermal extraction is heat.

General Description
The Financial Controller role will be a senior role within the Accounts and Finance department and the Group, responsible for the overall financial control, procedures, policies and reporting for the Group. The role will be based in Penryn, Cornwall, and leading the current team of three people with the ability to expand and develop the team as the Group’s Projects progress. The role will be a second incharge and have a direct reporting line to the Chief Financial Officer and will interact with Group’s department heads and the Group’s Board and Executive Committee.

Main Responsibilities
Below are a some of the main responsibilities of the role. As with any growing organisation, these will adapt and modify dynamically as the Group grows and develops its Projects.

Preparation of the Financial Statements & Compliance
• Overall control of all financial accounting, including to coordinate, prepare and review the interim and year end multi-currency, consolidated financial statements for the Group under IFRS
• Examine and process appropriate accounting treatments for complex transactions
• Run the year end, and when required interim, external audit process
• Monitor and ensure the financial controls and procedures, in particular the procurement, invoicing and approval processes are accurate and complete
• Prepare and review the Groups Tax Returns, including Research and Development Credits, and compliance
• Propose, prepare and implement accounting policies and procedures according to accounting best practise and comply with the Financial Reporting Code.
• Responsibility for preparing and delivering complete and accurate VAT returns.
• Ensure the accounting records are accurate, complete and up to date.

Budgeting, Treasury & Reporting
• Co-ordinate and prepare the annual budget across various workstreams throughout the Group, reforecasts and report on a monthly basis the Group’s performance against budget
• Monitoring the Group’s liquidity and cash balances against planned projects and commitments
• Support the technical teams with Grant Administration and financial reporting for Grants received.
• Input and control of treasury matters including deposits, multiple currency current accounts, intercompany loans and FX risk management

Deliver the Numbers, Systems & General
• Overall control of month-end close procedures and support CFO in reporting of financial performance and position to management/Board
• Monitor existing processes and controls within the business, evaluating areas of development.
• Work with IT to maintain integrity of all financials and procurement processes and continually improve our financial reporting, policies, process and procedures

Key Experience / Qualifications / Skills & Attributes
• Previous experience as a Financial Controller or similar level and ideally within the mineral extraction industry
• Qualified accountant – CIMA/ACCA/ACA and previous mineral extraction experience
• Show evidence of working to tight timescales, balancing priorities and successfully operating with a number of different workstreams and teams both internally and externally
• Being an open style and collaborative team leader with excellent communication skills in all forms with the ability to grow and develop the finance function of the group.

Remuneration And Benefits
We offer a competitive salary for this role in the range of £70,000 – £80,000 plus a 10% of salary pension contribution. Benefits will include life insurance, private medical insurance, choice to participate in the Group’s Electric Vehicle and Ride to Work Schemes. Working hours are typically 37.5 hours per week, but there may be a need for flexible hours. Annual leave comprises 25 days’ holiday per year pro rata, plus Bank Holidays.
