Project Hydrogeologist

Cornish Lithium is a highly innovative British mineral exploration company focussed on the sustainable extraction of lithium and other battery metals in the historically significant mining district of Cornwall, UK.

Job Role & Responsibilities

  • Activities pertaining to the hydrogeological testing for lithium enriched geothermal waters such as: sampling, deploying packer equipment, injection testing, pump tests, data collection and input, analysis and interpretation of data
  • Directing and supervising drill contractors and geologists on how to install hydrogeological equipment downhole.
  • Maintain good working relationships with outside technical partners/contractors (e.g. drillers, labs, site operators, etc).
  • Working closely with geologists to determine intervals of interest for sampling and testing
  • Advising and implementing beneficial hydrogeological testwork that could be required to meet project aims
  • Developing hydrogeological conceptual and 3D models to help define the lithium in geothermal water resource
  • Adhere to, carry out and develop all H&S and Company procedures.

Key Qualities

  • Degree in Geology or Geoscience
  • Experience of hydrogeological testwork and design
  • A broad understanding of the application and implementation of hydrogeological testing techniques
  • Deploying hydrogeological tests and equipment in the field
  • Understanding of good sampling and QA/QC practices
  • Understanding of key health and safety issues for site operations
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work shift patterns when required
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Good data management, analysis and interpretive skills
  • Right to work in the UK and a full driving licence

Desirable Qualities

  • MSc in Hydrogeology
  • Familiar with the IPI SWiPS ® packer tool, pump and airlift tests, spinner tests and regional ground water monitoring
  • Previous experience working on exploration drilling programmes

Salary and Hours

The salary for this role is negotiable, depending on experience, and the candidate will be based at the United Downs Industrial Estate, Redruth, Cornwall. Working hours are typically 37.5 hours per week, but there may be a need for flexible hours weekend and bank holiday working depending on the company’s requirements.  Annual leave comprises 25 days’ holiday per year pro rata, plus Bank Holidays.
