Senior/Chief Geologist – Hard Rock

Cornish Lithium is a highly innovative British mineral exploration company focussed on the sustainable extraction of lithium and other battery metals in the historically significant mining district of Cornwall, UK.

Job Role

To lead a team of geologists and be responsible for exploration, geology, and resource development for all Cornish Lithium’s hard rock projects including its flagship hard rock Trelavour project (the Project) near St Dennis, Cornwall. Reporting to the Head of Project Development of Hard Rock-Hard Rock Minerals and working closely with the Trelavour Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advancing the Project’s geological knowledge on grade, by products and geo-metallurgy. This will include developing the team to be ready for execution of the Project and eventual production.
  •  Resource estimation and development for the Project. Inclusive of converting JORC compliant resource confidence from inferred to indicated and measured, as well as defining additional resource to continually add value to the project.
  • Continuously maintaining and improving the geological models and grade block models with up to the date data, geological interpretations, and estimation parameters. This will include incorporating geological, mineralogical, and metallurgical performance indicators to allow reporting and predicative capability for dynamic assessment of project economics.
  • Working with in-house and consultant mining engineers, metallurgists, process engineers and ESG professionals on delivering the current scoping study and all future studies and on Project development and execution.
  • To increase the company value through exploration and development of standalone projects of lithium, base and precious metal interests around Cornwall.
  • To participate in producing and maintaining budgets for hard rock project expenditure.
  • To work with key stakeholders on successful project development and to maintain the highest levels of professionalism and working relationships.

  • Ability to continuously advance geological understanding with an appreciation of its importance to project economics.
  • To maintain excellent relationships with consultants, laboratories, universities, and other work partners.
  • Ability to mentor and manage a team and help improve their skillsets and qualities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Geology degree and ~ 10 years’ experience in mining and or exploration geology.
  • Resource estimation and block modelling experience.
  • Proficiency in using Datamine Studio RM and maintaining / writing macros for block model and resource estimation purposes an advantage.
  • Experience using MS Access or other database systems.
  • Prior experience in leading and managing a team.
  • Background in SW England geology desirable.
  • An understanding of mineral processing and the importance of integrating geometallurgy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Full clean driving licence.

Salary and Hours

The salary for this role is negotiable, depending on experience, and it will be based at the Company’s offices at ESAM, Chi Askorrans Carluddon Technology Park, St Austell, Cornwall PL26 8WE. Working hours are typically 37.5 hours per week, but there may be a need for
flexible hours. Annual leave comprises 25 days’ holiday per year pro rata, plus Bank Holidays.
