By using drones, our technical team is able to create 3D digital models of geological features.
In 2019 Cornish Lithium received funding from the Tevi programme to undertake a drone survey to map and model significant geological faults where they outcrop on the North coast of Cornwall, working with 3DeepMedia. It is thought that these faults may host lithium-enriched geothermal waters at depth. Accurately mapping the surface expression of these faults is key to fully understanding the subsurface regime of our exploration targets. The use of remote sensing technologies such as these have enabled Cornish Lithium to obtain high resolution imagery safely and in a time efficient way, to then interpret using specialist software back in the office.
The captured photogrammetric data from the drone survey was then built into a 3D digital model rendering of the North coast. Important structural data can be extracted from the geolocated digital models to build up a clear picture of the fracture regime on the surface which can then be extrapolated to the subsurface. Funding was also received to enable geological analysis of these structures from Aerospace Cornwall, enabling Cornish Lithium to work closely with experts at Camborne School of Mines to better understand and interpret the models.
360 aerial shots were taken during the drone survey. These showcase the North coast of Cornwall, highlighting the huge fractured zones on the cliffside that extend underground out to sea for many kilometres.
