Government minister visits Cornish Lithium

Cornish Lithium recently welcomed Minister of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Sarah Jones MP, to our Trelavour Lithium Project near St Dennis.
During her visit, Minister Jones met with staff members including the Founder and Executive Chairman Jeremy Wrathall and CEO Jamie Airnes.
Together they discussed Cornish Lithium’s key role in helping to secure a supply of lithium in the UK, and how strong collaboration between government and industry is more vital than ever.
The visit was an opportunity to showcase our state-of-the-art processing plant, share our vision for responsible lithium production, and introduce the people behind our work.
The Minister highlighted the importance of engaging with key industry stakeholders as the Critical Minerals Strategy is developed. The strategy aims to create a secure domestic supply chain of minerals like lithium and tin, which are used in the production of batteries that power smartphones, laptops and electric vehicles.

The following day Minister Jones attended a roundtable event hosted by MP for St Austell & Newquay Noah Law, which focused on discussing ways to grow the local critical minerals industry. She also visited Cornish Metals at the South Crofty tin project, and Camborne School of Mines, where she met with representatives from the University of Exeter to discuss the opportunities around developing the skills needed in mining engineering to support UK mining projects.
Minister Jones said: “In a changing world, it’s never been so important to have strong supplies of critical minerals. Without them we can’t have renewable energy, AI or a thriving car sector.
“That’s why we’re working with industry to develop a landmark Critical Minerals Strategy that will support the industries of tomorrow and deliver for business. Seeing Cornwall’s thriving mining cluster was vital to help me develop the new strategy which will deliver good jobs and a stronger economy.”
Commenting on the visit Cornish Lithium CEO Jamie Airnes said: “I would like to thank the Minister of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Sarah Jones MP, for taking the time to visit Cornish Lithium and learn more about how we are pioneering the clean extraction of lithium to support the UK’s transition to renewable energy. I am very pleased that the Minister was impressed with our work and our plans to continue creating jobs and driving investment in local communities."
